The Wilderness First Responder course is an intensive training course featuring 80 hours of instruction covering anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, environmental medicine and wilderness rescue. The course covers all requirements for the state and national certification test for first responders. At the completion of the course, students will be prepared for the National Registry Test and will be eligible for the Tennessee First Responder Certification.
Some course instruction will take place indoors in a classroom environment, but much of the training happens outside in practice situations. Students will learn from real-life scenarios with instructors and other students posing as patients.
The fee for the Wilderness First Responder course at Camp Wesley Woods is $650, and covers the course, textbooks, lodging and all meals for the eight days of training. The National Registry Test and Tennessee First Responder Certification require an additional fee.
