Why Summer Camp?
Summer camp provides a unique developmental opportunity for young people. Away from their regular routine and removed from the distractions of everyday life, campers are presented with wonderful opportunities to learn and grow. Under the careful supervision of trained staff, campers become part of an intentional community centered on positive values. Campers gain new insights into who they are and how they relate to others. Research shows that children who attend camp also become more independent, grow in self-confidence and build important social skills.
Why Camp Wesley Woods?
Outstanding Staff
While Camp Wesley Woods has a great setting and a wonderful program, our greatest strength is our staff. We recruit throughout the country and overseas looking for Christian men and women to serve as role models, friends and mentors to our campers. Each has been carefully selected and takes part in an extensive training program prior to camp. Throughout the summer they take part in ongoing training and are provided feedback, coaching and support. Our staff care deeply about their faith, love to work with kids and have an infectious enthusiasm for life. They are focused on the needs of campers and are committed to helping each child get the most out of camp.
Small Group Approach
At Camp Wesley Woods one of our goals is to make sure each camper feels welcomed and accepted as a member of the camp community. We assign campers to a small, coed group of ten kids that becomes their family for the week. Each group is led by two counselors who focus on helping the group build positive relationships. Each small group develops its own schedule for the week and participates in most camp activities together. Through the small group experience campers build friendships, develop interpersonal skills and learn more about who they are.
Focus on Faith
While Camp Wesley Woods is a place filled with fun and friendship, it is also a place with an important purpose…helping kids grow in faith. Our program builds on the opportunities created by the wonder of God’s creation found in nature and the camper’s distance from the distractions of day-to-day life. Through daily spiritual formation activities campers are challenged and inspired to explore and grow in faith. From powerful high energy worship to quiet reflective prayer, opportunities abound for campers to grow closer to God. Pastors serve as Ministers in Residence each week to share in the Christian journey with campers and staff.
Commitment to Health & Safety
The health and safety of every camper is our top priority. We carefully design and conduct all of our programs with safety in mind. From our pool to our archery range to our adventure activities, we work hard to ensure campers have a fun yet safe experience. To keep our camp community healthy we have trained health care professionals on site 24 hours a day.
